On the Vista machine I've tried disabling the dhcp BROADCAST flag (as instructed here: ) and disabling IPv6 and the IP Helper service. If you dont see it, press the Windows Key + R and type in mblctr followed by pressing the enter key. I've tried disabling any encryption on the router. Youll want to access the Mobility Center by pressing the Windows Key + X and click on Mobility Center. I've tried resetting the router to factory defaults.
The wireless signal strength is not the problem I get 4 or 5 bars throughout the house. Press Windows + X and open the Device Manager > Expand the Network Adapter > Right-click on your network driver and select Properties > Click Uninstall > After that, visit the brand manufacturer's official website and download the latest version of the driver and install it. (Both machines connect fine with ethernet cables). The Vista machine will *not* make a wireless connection the router (keeps getting "Local only" and "Unidentified Network") but the XP machine connects perfectly every time. PC#1: acer desktop running Win Vista Home Premium (fully patched and updated) Verizon FIOS with the actiontec modem/router.
